Adidas BJJ Gi Review

The Adidas New Contest 2.0 BJJ GI is a very sporty-looking gi. It has a fresh look to it. If you are looking for something fashionable to wear in your IBJJF fight then you should put this gi in your list.

Yes, this gi is IBJJF approved. So no need to worry about buying another set. This gi also comes with a reinforced design in the chest, back, and other stress parts.

The Adidas New Contest 2.0 BJJ GI is made with the finest material. It will last for a long time, even after intense fighting and sparring sessions with it.

Features of Adidas New Contest 2.0 BJJ GI

Now let us get a little technical about the Adidas New Contest 2.0 BJJ GI. We will be talking about its material, quality, design, and other aspects.

Material

The material used in the Adidas New Contest 2.0 BJJ GI is 100% cotton. It is processed with Adi-weave technology. Cotton is a very comfortable choice for crafting a gi. Lighters will feel very comfortable in it.

But in hot weather and intense long fights, the gi will become sweaty. This may create an uncomfortable experience for the fighter.

Besides that, this gi is all good.

Quality

Speaking of quality, this Adidas New Contest 2.0 BJJ GI hits all the checkboxes. Durability? Yes. Reinforced tailoring? Yes. Longevity? Yes.

The material used in the gi is 100% cotton. It was processed with adi-weave technology. The jacket of the gi has reinforced stitching in the chest and upper back. The interior is multi-paneled. But the mid and lower back is a single panel fabric, this gives you more comfort.

Design

The design of this gi is sporty. It got the green thumb of IBJJF. The gi is available in two colors. Black and white. The jacket of this gi features Adidas’s classic three stripes. The trousers/ pants also have three stripes in their hip area.

In the black color set, the strips are colored yellow and in the white color set, the stripes are red.

Adidas also stitched its logo in the front and back of the gi. On the front, the logo is big and located under the jacket buckle. In the back, there is a small logo under the collar.

So the Adidas New Contest 2.0 BJJ GI has a nice sense of fashion and branding in it.

Fitting

The Adidas New Contest 2.0 BJJ GI is one step ahead of other gis in the fitting. Most of the BJJ gis have one problem: They shrink in size after the first wash. That makes them uncomfortable to wear after the wash.

But the Adidas New Contest 2.0 BJJ GI uses pre-shrunk fabric. So there will be no shrink in size after the first wash. That way you can wear and wash your Adidas New Contest 2.0 BJJ GI for years.

Comfort

The material used in this Adidas New Contest 2.0 BJJ GI is 100% cotton. So the fighter will feel much more comfortable in it.

But in hot weather, it may become uncomfortable to sweat. The cotton will soak the sweat and become wet and heavy.

So that is all about the Adidas New Contest 2.0 BJJ GI. Overall it is a great gig for BJJ. Now let us talk about the Adidas New Challenge 2.0 BJJ GI.

The Adidas New Challenge 2.0 BJJ GI is a scaled-down version of the Adidas New Contest 2.0 BJJ GI. It does not have the well-appreciated sporty look of the New Contest 2.0. What is the reason for such a design? To make it affordable.

The Adidas New Challenge 2.0 BJJ GI costs less than the Adidas New Contest 2.0 BJJ GI. Besides the look, it has almost the same properties as the Adidas New Contest 2.0 BJJ GI.

But it does come with some downsides and user dissatisfactions. Why don’t we do the same technical analysis for this gi as we did for the last one? That way the difference will be more clear.

Features of Adidas New Challenge 2.0 BJJ GI

So just like the Adidas New Challenge 2.0 BJJ GI technical analysis, we will analyze the material, quality, design, and other aspects of the Adidas New Challenge 2.0 BJJ GI.

Material

The Adidas New Challenge 2.0 BJJ GI is made with 100% cotton. It is supple cotton, which is soft and comfortable. It is also very breathable and fighters appreciate a breathable gi.

The jacket only weighs 350 grams, which makes it one of the most lightweight gi jackets.

It will deliver maximum comfort but in hot weather, it will get sweaty. Sweaty gi is very uncomfortable to wear and fight with. So you should keep that into consideration.

Quality

The quality of the Adidas New Challenge 2.0 BJJ GI is almost the same as the Adidas New Contest 2.0 BJJ GI. It is reinforced, durable, and designed to last for a long time.

The chest is multilayered and reinforced. The upper back and the pants are also reinforced. The middle and lower back is a single panel fabric.

So overall it is the same. But the pants are different. When it gets sweaty, it becomes slightly see-through. So you should keep that into consideration.

Design

The design of this gi is where the difference becomes clear. There is no iconic 3-stripe design of Adidas in it. It is just a plain color gi. The left shoulder has the Adidas logo stitched. That’s all the design.

This gi comes in two colors. Black and white.

Fitting

The Adidas New Challenge 2.0 BJJ GI is made with pre-shrunk fabric. So fitting will not be an issue even after washing. Just follow the Adidas gi size chart and pick the right one.

Wash it, use it and it will last for years.

Comfort

The gi is very comfortable with its cotton design. It is highly breathable. So hot weather would not be much of a problem.

But if you get sweaty, it may become uncomfortable for you. What’s worse is that the pants become see-through (if you choose white).

So that is all about the Adidas New Challenge 2.0 BJJ GI. It is less likable than the Adidas New Contest 2.0 BJJ GI.

Conclusion

Both these Adidas BJJ gis are very unique. Especially the pre-shrunk fabric wins it all. They are IBJJF approved. You can wear them for fighting and sparring. Now, which one should you choose?

If you are on a budget, then choose the Adidas New Challenge 2.0 BJJ GI. If money is no issue, then choose the Adidas New Contest 2.0 BJJ GI.
